Start by reducing the exposed distance rather than trusting one test or one product to make the route safe.

Build a surface workaround

  1. Map shade, grass, and the shortest exposed sections.
  2. Shift optional outings to cooler times.
  3. Use suitable paw protection only when the dog is comfortable wearing it.
  4. Check paws and behavior after necessary trips.

Treat the hand test as a warning, not a guarantee

If a surface feels very hot to your hand, that is a clear reason to avoid it. A brief hand test cannot measure the whole route, exposure time, or an individual dog's risk.

Plan from the apartment door

Hot surfaces can begin at the sunny building entrance or courtyard. Keep the route map, leash, bags, and any well-fitted protective gear ready before the dog is waiting by the door.
